Race and Ancestry — Revision history

Changelog for the Race and Ancestry draft.

2026-08-29 — Rewritten, Sources — Social variability of race, PCA sampling maps, conclusion

  • Part I — The social variability of race: Rewrote the Brazil / U.S. classification case with sourced census and social-science evidence (branqueamento, one-drop and blood-quantum rules, Healy siblings, MENA category change, Phipps / Thind / Plessy); old draft block retained commented out.
  • Part I — Hereditarian PCA and STRUCTURE Claims: Added HGDP and Xing sampling-location figures (LiSampling.jpg, XingSampling.jpg); expanded HapMap / HGDP / Xing sampling limitations, Africa–Eurasia corridor gap, FST confidence intervals, and SNP ascertainment bias; tightened the handoff into the continuous-ancestry section.
  • Conclusion: Replaced the draft conclusion with a full three-part close (What the Evidence Shows, What Follows from It, What This Leaves the Hereditarian), including the identity/reckoning argument and the agnosticism-vs-immutability critique.

2026-08-24 — Rewritten, Sources — Common-sense argument, pastoral fitness selection model, WAIS-IV verification

  • Part I — The Common-Sense Argument (Before Genetics): Reworked the genealogical case with improved argumentation—relations traced vs levels set; family, tribe, and nation compared to race; descent-based proposals examined in order (common descent, patrilineal line, percentage threshold, deepest split); entanglement and the gradient retreat; five-point summary of what common sense establishes before genetics.
  • Part I — Number density on PCA: Added a sex-spectrum disanalogy clarifying why blurry boundaries do not undermine a binary sex criterion but do undermine racial partitions.
  • Part II — Implications for Pastoral Fitness: Strengthened argumentation throughout; pastoral fitness now uses a truncated-distribution selection model (ordination as an IQ screen) with verified WAIS-IV normative figures by education (Holdnack & Weiss Table 4.3, census-stratified comparisons) rather than unsourced degree-level claims; expanded PC(USA) ordination-exam evidence and male-only pool / compression footnotes.
  • Appendix — WAIS-IV Table 4.3 and the Uttl Reanalysis: New appendix documenting a duplicated cell in Table 4.3, the augmented vs census-stratified sample, and corrections to widely quoted Uttl aggregates.
  • Conclusion: Added synthesis tying the genealogical and genetic halves—race requires both a traced level and biologically real differences, and neither supplier delivers both.

2026-07-11 — Rewritten, Sources, Copyedit — Lineage, PCA, density, IQ tails, pastoral fitness, interracial marriage

  • Part I — Theological grounding / lineage: Expanded the pre-Babel unity and Shem–Ham–Japheth intermarriage case; added a patrilineal-descent critique (unidentifiable race, Carter on Y-chromosome haplogroups, footnote on sons vs daughters and “mixed” marriage).
  • Part I — Nested subsets / Templeton: Added the Templeton 2013 trellis figure (gene flow and range expansions vs a clean branching tree).
  • Part I — PCA and STRUCTURE: New explanatory prose on what PCA shows and does not show; added PCA process illustrations and Gusev sampling / sibling-distortion figures.
  • Part I — Number density on PCA: Reworked the reply—census size vs mode-existence dilemma; nested / meta-race rescue reframed as conceding rather than saving the hereditarian position.
  • Part II — High-IQ tails: Reframes tail ratios as the mean gap re-expressed; clarifies absolute supply vs Murray’s East Asian–White cushion; defers the civilizational-density claim to Flynn and African history.
  • Part II — Implications for Pastoral Fitness: Strengthens average ≠ minimum; degree-proxy cognitive floor and exam vs MDiv; related compression and claim-wording polish.
  • Appendix A — Interracial marriage: Reworked the dilemma horns and admixture-math exposure (including one-drop classification); closing section reframed as reductio rather than positive pastoral counsel.
  • Throughout — Genetics 101 / early definitions: Minor factual corrections (synonymous vs nonsynonymous; genotype vs genome wording). No argument changes.
  • Throughout: Spelling and terminology fixes (Principal Components, etc.).

2026-07-06 — Figures, HTML formatting, and section titles

  • Throughout: Converted figure widths from absolute sizes to relative percentages.
  • Throughout: Shortened subsection titles by dropping repeated parent-section prefixes (e.g. Genetic Variation 101: … → …). Notable renames:
    • Human Genetic Variation – PCA and STRUCTURE → PCA and STRUCTURE
    • Human Genetic Variation – Hereditarian Claims (Verify) → Hereditarian PCA and STRUCTURE Claims (Verify)
    • Race and Ancestry: Distinctions → Race and Ancestry Distinguished
    • Genetics 102: GWAS → Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS)
  • HTML/PDF build: Table captions below tables; appendix subsections numbered A.1, B.1, etc.; styling (figure, etc., numbering, margin-sidebar TOC).

2026-07-04 — Draft update under review

  • Part II IQ/psychometrics — Does IQ matter?: Added new argument about IQ’s effect largely mediated by education.

2026-07-04 — Initial draft release

  • Full manuscript posted for review (HTML, PDF, Markdown download).
  • Known gaps and open items are marked in the text (e.g. verification flags, - AI gen section labels, [FLAG: ...] notes).
